Where do I start with Intuitive Eating?

I decided to write a blog post on this topic because I get this question A LOT from followers on social media. The word is getting out there about intuitive eating and people are asking do I get started?

Step 1: Seek out education from the experts

Intuitive eating is NOT the same as eating intuitively....hmmmmmmmmm. Huh?

Intuitive Eating is based on 10 Principles written in the book Intuitive Eating: A Revolutionary Program that Works written by Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole. These principles are "goal posts" to give yourself tasks and thought processes to work on in order to liberate your thoughts from the confines of diet culture messaging.

How to educate yourself on the 10 Principles:

2. Order the book: Intuitive Eating: A Revolutionary Program that Works written by Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole (this is free with my Nourish Your Vibrant Life program)

Remember social media is not the same as a program or individualized nutrition advice. Following an intuitive eating dietitian or counselor on social media will be educational and insightful but it will not provide you with the specialized and nuanced information you need in order to make peace with food.

Step 2: Make time

In order to work on the "tough stuff" like emotional eating, releasing food restrictions, starting to eat foods that you saw as forbidden or work on your body image it needs to be a priority.

Set aside the time in your calendar to work on intuitive eating. Set aside 30 - 60 minutes each week to read the book, take courses or start your program. If you start to calendar block now, the rest of your life will fit in around your scheduled time.

Diet culture makes us believe we need to "fix" our problems or "rush" our learning. This mentality just doesn't apply to learning about intuitive eating. This process can take time so allow yourself the time to learn at your own pace.

Step 3: Find a Program to Support Your Journey
